Lasernet 11 Installation and Setup Guide

    • PDF

    Article summary

This guide introduces the applications and services that comprise Lasernet 11 and describes how to install and configure them. After following this guide, you will have an operational Lasernet 11 system.

    Intended Audience

    This guide is intended for:

    • IT administrators and technical consultants who set up production Lasernet systems. If you are part of this audience, follow the full installation and setup process. This process describes all available installation and setup options.

    • Anyone who wants to set up a basic demonstration or trial Lasernet system. If you are part of this audience, follow the “quick start installation” process, which is a simpler route to an operational Lasernet system. This audience includes those who do not have the IT and database administration knowledge required by the full installation and setup process.

    Quick Start Installation Process

Where relevant, each page of this installation and setup guide contains Quick Start sections that contain instructions for those who are following the quick start installation and setup process.

An understanding of basic IT concepts and Lasernet concepts (such as Lasernet configurations) is assumed.

Although the quick start process is a simpler route to an operational Lasernet system, the resulting system is suitable for use only as a demonstration or trial Lasernet system, and is likely to be unsuitable for production settings. This is because the quick start process includes these compromises:

    • The database-related part of the process uses the built-in SQL Server system administrator account. Consequently, the database’s configuration might not conform to organizational best practices.

    • The process uses default settings (such as default port numbers), which might not be suitable for production settings.

    • The Lasernet system uses a demo license.

    • All Lasernet server and client software is installed on the server.

    • Users can sign in as the built-in Lasernet admin user only.

    • The Lasernet system does not use any of the available installation and setup options (such as creating server certificate bindings).

If these compromises are not suitable for your situation, follow the full installation and setup process.

The quick start installation and setup process is:

    1. Install Lasernet software on the server.

    2. Install Lasernet Developer on the server.

    3. Configure the Lasernet services running on the servers:

      1. Create and configure a Lasernet environment.

      2. Configure Lasernet Config Server.

      3. Configure Lasernet Web Client.

    4. Complete initial system setup tasks in Lasernet Config Server:

      1. Sign in to Lasernet Config Server.

      2. Apply licenses to Lasernet services.

      3. Deploy a configuration to the Lasernet environment.

The Full Installation and Setup Process

Those who are following the full installation and setup process should follow the full procedure described on each page of this guide.

An understanding of basic IT concepts and some IT administration knowledge is assumed. To create and configure the Lasernet Config database, a basic level of database administration knowledge is required. A basic understanding of Lasernet concepts (such as Lasernet configurations) is also assumed.

To get a Lasernet 11 system up and running, you must install software on servers and clients, and then complete basic configuration and system setup tasks. This guide will help you to complete the following process:

    1. Install Lasernet software on servers.

    2. Install Lasernet software on clients.

    3. Configure the Lasernet services running on the servers:

      1. Create and configure Lasernet environments.

      2. Configure Lasernet Config Server.

      3. Configure Lasernet Web Client.

    4. Complete initial system setup tasks in Lasernet Config Server:

      1. Sign in to Lasernet Config Server.

      2. Apply licenses to Lasernet services.

      3. Configure users, groups, and security roles.

      4. Complete additional Lasernet environment configuration:

        • Grab mode

        • Logging

      5. Deploy Lasernet configurations to environments.

      6. Add print servers to the Config Server.

      7. Set up app-registration-based access for external applications.

      8. Configure Config Server app links.

    Note

Depending on project requirements, some parts of this process might not be necessary, or you might need to complete advanced configuration tasks that are not covered by this guide.

    Note

After you have a basic Lasernet 11 system up and running, you can install any optional Lasernet software (such as the Lasernet Printer Service) that is needed to fulfill project requirements.

    Scope

This guide covers Lasernet installation and basic system configuration for Lasernet 11 and later only.

    Note

For information about installing Lasernet 10, see the Lasernet Installation Guide.

This guide does not describe Lasernet system administration. For information about Lasernet administration, see the Lasernet Administration Guide.

This guide does not describe how to create and import Lasernet configurations and deploy them to Lasernet environments. For information on that subject, see the Lasernet Configuration Management and Deployment Guide.

This guide does not describe how to use Lasernet Developer to modify the workflow that a Lasernet configuration describes. For information on that subject, see the Lasernet Developer Guide.
