    Printer Sharing

    Article summary

When using Lasernet Cloud Print Connector as a service on a print server, you can control what printer should be visible/shared to a user. Therefore, you need to add the proper settings to control inherits. Among other possibilities, you can use the Parameters page (Lasernet > Cloud print connector setup > Parameters).

For sharing printers, use the Global printer sharing drop-down combo box. It proposes to choose among the following three options:

    • Inherit: Printers are inherited from the level above. It does not make sense here as the global parameter since this is the highest level.

    • Share: Printers are shared between users.

    • Do not share: Printers are not shared between users.

Here is an overview of how you can control sharing printers between users by setting the same parameters from different places in Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations. The settings get inherited and come into effect in the following order – the lowest order number has the highest priority and is the most significant:

    1. Lasernet > Cloud print connector setup > Parameters (the highest priority).

If it is set to Do not share, it is not possible to share any printers.

If it is set to Share, it is possible to identify if a printer is shared or not.

    1. Lasernet > Cloud print connector setup > User setup (the second highest priority).

If Inherit is used, parameters from the previous settings (1 and 2) are applied.

If it is set to Do not share, it is not possible to share any printers for this user/Azure connector ID.

If it is set to Share, it is possible to identify if a printer is shared or not on the Printers page.

    Note

Remember that the same user can have more Azure connector IDs.

    1. Lasernet > Setup > Lists > Printers (the lowest priority).

If Inherit is used, parameters from the previous settings (1, 2, and 3) are applied.

The current setting has the lowest priority. That is why a printer can be shared if settings of the higher priorities are defined as Share.

If settings of the higher priorities are defined as Share, it is also possible not to share a printer.

A warning message is shown if Share is selected at a higher level and Do not share is set at a lower level:

    Warning

Be aware that sharing this connector will not take effect because sharing has been disabled on a higher level.
