Install Lasernet 11 Software on Servers

    • PDF

    Article summary

The first part of the Lasernet 11 installation process is to install Lasernet software on servers.

About Lasernet Environments, Lasernet Config Server, and the Lasernet Server Installer

    Lasernet Environments

Lasernet environments run on servers. Each environment is configured to run a Lasernet workflow (that could include data transformation and document generation, management, and distribution elements). These workflows are known as Lasernet configurations. Each environment can run a different configuration from the others.

Depending on the design of the Lasernet system, there could be multiple distinct environments, each hosted by a dedicated server. For example, there could be separate Development, Test, and Production environments. Each Lasernet environment is a running Lasernet 11 Windows service.

    Lasernet Config Server

Lasernet Config Server runs on one of the servers that is a part of the Lasernet system. Lasernet Config Server is the central communication point for all the components of the Lasernet system and manages the Lasernet configurations that the environments run. Aspects of system configuration (such as user access to the Lasernet system) are managed by Lasernet Config Server.

    The Lasernet Server Installer

Use the Lasernet Server installer to install the Lasernet service, Lasernet Config Server, or both.

    About Lasernet Web Client

Lasernet Web Client is a web application that enables users to remotely view job queues and perform basic tasks like editing JobInfos, and rescheduling, searching, viewing and deleting jobs, and releasing temporarily paused jobs.

The Lasernet Web Client installer installs a Windows service that hosts the Lasernet Web Client website. It is recommended that you install Lasernet Web Client on the same server as Lasernet Config Server.

    Server Software Installation Process

    1. Ensure that all hardware and software system requirements are satisfied.

    2. Create a Microsoft SQL Server database for Lasernet Config Server to use.

      • You must create the database in a named SQL Server instance (rather than the default instance). This instance must be on the same server as Lasernet Config Server or on a server that Lasernet Config Server can communicate with.

      • Ensure that a database user that has permissions to create and alter tables, and insert, update and delete rows, is available for Lasernet Config Server to use. This can be the sa user, or it can be a created user that has appropriate permissions.

      • There are no manual database configuration requirements. Any necessary configuration is made automatically by Lasernet.

    3. Depending on which software you want to install on each server, copy the relevant installers to each server:

      • Lasernet Server installer: Lasernet Server 11.<minor version>.<patch version>.msi

      • Lasernet Web Client installer: Lasernet Web Client 11.<minor version>.<patch version>.msi

    4. On each server that will host either a Lasernet environment or the Lasernet Config Server, or both, use the Lasernet Server installer to install the Lasernet service or Lasernet Config service (or both) on the server (as described below).

    5. If Lasernet Web Client will be needed, use the Lasernet Web Client installer to install it on the same server that is running the Lasernet Config Server (as described below).

After installing Lasernet server software, the next step of the Lasernet 11 installation and setup process is to install Lasernet software on client computers.

Install the Lasernet Service or Lasernet Config Service

To install the Lasernet Service or Lasernet Config service on a server, follow these steps:

    1. Run the Lasernet Server installer.

    2. On the Welcome page, click Next.

    3. Accept the terms of the license agreement, then click Next.

    4. Check that the default installation location is suitable and change it if necessary, then click Next.

    5. Select which installer features to install:

      • Lasernet Service: Install this feature if the server will run a Lasernet environment.

      • Configuration Server: Install this feature if the server will run Lasernet Config Server.

        Note

If necessary, you can select both Lasernet Service and Configuration Server.

    6. On the Ready to Install page, click Install.

    7. After the installation is complete, click Finish.

    Note

If you selected the Lasernet Service feature, the Lasernet Monitor tool is also installed. This tool enables you to read activity logs for Lasernet environments.

    Install Lasernet Web Client

To install Lasernet Web Client on a server, follow these steps:

    1. Run the Lasernet Web Client installer.

    2. On the Welcome page, click Next.
