    Default Printers

Default printers can be used to automatically select a printer based on the user generating the report and the report being generated. This is achieved by creating rules that define when each printer should be used.

In the following example, four default printers are displayed:

    • If any user generates the SalesInvoiceReplacement report, then the report will be sent to the Sales invoice printer.

    • If a user belongs to the Manchester User group and generates any report, then the report will be sent to the Manchester office printer.

    • If a user belongs to the London User group and generates any report, then the report will be sent to the London office printer.

    • If KevinTattersall generates any report, then the report will be sent to Kevins printer.

Although the screenshot does not provide an example, you can also use Report groups to link a printer to a group of reports.

The following table defines the possible combinations of users and reports for default printers:

    COMBINATIONS

    SPECIFIC REPORTS

    GROUP OF REPORTS

    ALL REPORTS

In some cases, a match can occur to multiple default printers.

For example, if KevinTattersall were in the Manchester user group, you would assume that these two default printers would be used:

However, Kevins printer would be used in this scenario, as All reports – User is higher in the search order than All reports – User group.

The search order for finding the default printer is as follows:

    1. Report - User

    2. Report - User Group

    3. Report - All users

    4. ReportGroup - User

    5. ReportGroup - UserGroup

    6. ReportGroup - All users

    7. All Reports - User

    8. All Reports - UserGroup

    9. All Reports - All users

    10. Default printer defined in Lasernet printer (Lasernet > Setup > Lists > Printers)

The default printer defined on the Printers form (Lasernet > Setup > Lists > Printers) is used when no match is found in the default printers list.

Default printers can be used on the following forms: Predefined destinations, Fallback destinationQuick destination (Warehouse printing), Customer/Vendor contacts, as well as on the Predefined destinations form of Microsoft Dynamics 365 Customer Engagement.

The default printers can be used when Lasernet Print is selected and Default is selected as Printer name, as shown in the following example:

    Custom Properties

To configure Custom properties, navigate to Lasernet > Setup > Defaults > Custom properties.

The Custom properties functionality is used to define additional job information to be applied in Lasernet, such as the number of copies or originals.

On the Custom properties page, use the Up and Down buttons to move a record in the list and change its order, as needed.

If you want to define any property as mandatory, select the Mandatory checkbox for that property record.

    Reports

The Custom properties are now visible and ready for configuration in the Reports section of the Lasernet module.

    XML

The Custom properties you have created are also saved to the XML file and shown in the JobInfo section.

    Naming Patterns

To access the Naming patterns page, navigate to Lasernet > Setup > Defaults > Naming patterns.

Use the Naming patterns functionality to define the procedure of reloading fields. For example, when the same naming is to be used across different reports. The same design can be applied in Lasernet Developer when the same names are used across reports.

    Field name

    Description

    Type

Allows to define the selected object. It is possible to select among the following options: Field, Label, Method, Parameter, and Other.

    Pattern

Allows to define a value for the selected type.

Naming patterns can be defined in general, as well as for each report separately. It is possible to override a definition of a naming pattern within one report.
